A Gift of Enchantment

Warm Moist early summer air
enveloping, giving a feeling of pink
as the sun descends
and lowers a blanket
of mist upon
the wild summer
grasses growing
freely
over long
rolling hills
of the parkland
wisely preserved
by our ancestors.
What’s this?
Twinkling lights
within the mist
360 degrees
of enchantment
gently blinking beauty
calling first here
then there
where
a smile
comes
unbidden
to settle
upon
a heart
forever
remembering
this moment
and
grateful
for the
generous
gift.

The above is a recollection of an early summer evening
in which I experienced a field completely covered in fireflies
as I momentarily left the Winnipeg Folk Festival to cycle
and also walk back to my campsite to change and retrieve what I
needed for the evening's festivities. This moment of enchantment
will remain within my memory forever, whereas I do not recall
much of the boisterous activities of a crowd of over 30,000 people.

Hmm... food for thought.
